Pick Three: June

Words by Branden D. Tatum

Today Chi-City Hip Hop brings you the end of the month segment. This is an opinion segment, where a writer picks three post, from the current month, that stood out to them or that's been added to a playlist and have it on repeat and simple stood out against others. I don't like long lists so we're just picking three, no honorable mentions, its that simple. This month we introduce writer Branden D. Tatum bringing his pick three for the month of June.

In no particular order, each month's post will hold three singles, sometimes all mixtapes, maybe all videos, or two singles and mixtape, etc etc. There were definitely a lot of great releases this month, making choices difficult, but I got my three what's yours.

Check it out and comment below and let me know your three.

Katie Got Bandz - Drillary Clinton 2 (Mixtape)
The first lady of Drill music is back with her follow up to last year's Drillary Clinton. Coming off of the success of 'Pop Out' she looks to gain even more success. Well nothing has really changed since the last project, lyric wise as well as beat wise (due to the production being all done by Block On Da Trakk). The low end native still gets bandz and raps about how she still isn't with the 'opps'. Perhaps, one of the stand out tracks of the 11 total tracks is number 2 'Weak' which features DC MMG rapper Wale, followed by this is 'Who Da F*ck' where the rapper goes in about real out here in the streets of Chicago. No matter what she definitely keeps it real about what's going on. She is one of the main drill artists to continue on the wave on the genre of music. Leave it to the first lady of drill music to deliver just what her self-proclaimed nickname! Let's get it!

G. Count - Dat Nigga featuring Lil Durk and Lil Herb (Video)
G. Count of L.E.P. Bogus Boys is stepping out on his own nowadays. Pushing the L.E.P. New Regime movement, he enlists 2 of Chicago leading rappers for the video of 'Dat Nigga'. The video features at least 3 all white Maybachs being used as props as the rappers lip-sync there verse behind  what appears to be a vacant building. Seems like the perfect place to shoot a video when you're a Chicago drill rapper. The city is definitely on lock with different aerial views of the city, even one in front of the United Center showing our Bulls and Blackhawks pride. Overall, the video isn't not too extravagant, it actually is a pretty simple and goes with the Lil Durk assisted chorus [I got my city on lock cause I'm dat nigga/On twitter you mention my name then we at niggas/These niggas be screaming out war cause we don't fuck with em/I know these niggas mad cause I'm that nigga]

Lucki Eck$ - Reflections (Single)
In a city where hard drill beats and aggressive lyrics tend to be the norm associated with the present day Chicago rap scene,  it's good to hear something different every now and then. Although, Lucki may have some aggressive lyrics in some tracks he doesn't make it the main focus. In this particular song, the Chi newcomer hints at you to light one up and vibe out.
