D. Son - SummerTime Chi: Reloaded (Mixtape)

When D. Son released the first three singles we saw an artist looking to make his mark by creating his own lane. SummerTime Chi: Reloaded presents a new spin on on SummerTime Chi, release last summer. Usually when a artist drops a reloaded project fans get only one or two new tracks. D. Son provides a shorter track list compared to the 20 song form of the first release. See tracklist and download below.

For what ever reason the track list was shorten, but doesn't hurt the project or work against it. With less comes the repacking, a batch of six new tracks. He rounds up guest like D2G, Abstrak Mind, and Neaka LG and production from Doc Da Mindbenda and LawBeatz.

SummerTime Chi: Reloaded is introduced with an interview with Windy City Underground's J.R. Bang speaking about the promotion of diversity in. Believing the that the scene at times can too trap where in his opinion there should be more artist taking it back to the roots of rhyme. J.R. Bang asked the perfect follow up question as to what he hopes to change, which lead to the tone that D. Son is reaching for, this reloaded project of pushing to show off they lyrical ability while not exploiting the life of the streets.

Confidence is prominent in the his single releases, Bringin' Real Back, Heir To The Throne, and Getaway. Bringin' Real Back, produced LawBeatz, presents its self as a declaration of what he is going to do in the pursuit to being the best. Explaining his frustration with DJs, getting his props in regard to his grind, and his dislike for route that some artist take with their lyrics. Heir To The Throne takes a similar tone to Bring Real Back but on a more calmer note, with a metaphor speaking on A&Rs artist seeking ability, and the titles say it all, as to where he feels he is going in this industry. Getaway, another song on the calmer tone, is an expressing of the possibilities that comes with the success in music. The single attribute to what D. Son feel he will be at soon while continuing to declare his confidence that the rap game is his in a Chi state of mind.

Other tracks such as Seduced by Fame and Playa Shit are two where different situation with women. Playa Shit tells the story of a playa life, living two different lives in the case of dealing with different women. Seduced by Fame gives a scenario of what problems can bring into a relationship once a certain fame is acquired. Both track are situations that many can identify with that is definitely a plus for this project.

There is some pretty good music here but not recommended for those who are looking for any pop/club hits. If you love to hear artist spit well put together lyrics that is not overshadow by a catchy chorus then this is a mixtape you want to listen to.

Stay tuned for a upcoming video for Life of The Party.
