Q&A with Onis on upcoming project and more!

With solid projects under his belt, with the backing of StayHumble Ent., Onis is proving to have staying power in Chicago's music scene. The man with the bahz who can also give you something to just sit back and rock to, has new material that's in the works. Onis has been consistent with singles, mixtapse, and album releases, kicking off 2013 of with a track  called "Water". He also announced the title of a new mixtape "H2O". Today we get insight into what has has planned how far along is the new mixtape and new material that he's to release soon.

With the title of the project being "H2O", and the first single being "Water" I'm seeing a concept. How did this concept come about?
Just trying to take it to the next level and associate myself with the word "Honest" as much as possible. People always mispronounce my name so that's where "Honest = Onis" came from. That's how I came up with "H2O", to affirm myself as the truth. I wrote "Water" before I even came up with the concept though. I just wanna show the many forms i can present myself in this music, like "H2O" can be ice, vapor, "Water" lol.
"The Time Is Now" held some great singles and features from many artist, how will "H2O" be different and what approach are you taking?
Appreciate you joe. I got a pretty decent response from it. We still gotta couple more vids and singles we may drop from there. We waiting for the "Big Bank" video feat The Boy Illinois right now, so we still grinding. The Time is Now! "Water" was just a prefix for what's to come. As for "H2O" though, I'm being a bit more creative. My last project was more personal and a journey through my life up to now, this project I'm more free creatively.
How far along are you in finishing the new mixtape?
I'd say about 20%. I got a heap of songs I been working on but its about the vibe and the songs fitting with that vibe.
Between "On The Contrary" mixtape and the upcoming "H2O" what are some of the things you've learned about yourself and the music business?
Just trial and error. I was just thirsty to show I could spit bahz and pay homage to hip hop with "On the Contrary". It takes more than bahz tho. I'm more focused on trying to build something worth remembering, something people can't deny. We trying to proposer outchea.
While releasing the first single, you said this would go over some listeners head, what was the thought process and creative intent behind "Water"?
Yeah. I knew it wouldn't be a smash or noting like that but I know those who did/do listen cant deny the skill presented. I wanted to rap about something different but something everybody could relate to. Water is life. No one can deny that. My inspiration was of course Nas's "I Gave You Power". People needed to see it from water's perspective for a change.
