Pick Three: February

The end of the month is here and with that come February Pick Three editorial. Today Chi-City Hip Hop brings you the end of the month segment. This is an opinion segment, where a writer picks three post, from the current month, that stood out to them or that's been added to a playlist and have it on repeat and simple stood out against others. I don't like long lists so we're just picking three, no honorable mentions, its that simple.

In no particular order, each month's post will hold three singles, sometimes all mixtapes, maybe all videos, or two singles and mixtape, etc etc. There were definitely a lot of great releases this month, making choices difficult, but I got my three what's yours.

Check it out and comment below and let me know your three.

Alex Wiley & Mick Jenkins - Forever
Two artist who have made their paths apparent, releasing great music that people draw toward, teamed up for a collaboration early in the month. The energy that Alex Wiley incites with his unique voice in the beginning brings an instant life this song. Mick Jenkins follows with his own energy, and references his upcoming project "The Water[s]" so smoothly, his crew Free Nation, which then can lead to deeper interpretation. Wiley and Jenkins bring their respective styles over production from Sunny Dukes, who completely amazing with this beat, with three minds on one track the dope sound they brought will live on "Forever".

Meeko Fly ft. Ridgio - Lucky No More
Relatively new to Chi-City Hip Hop, Meeko Fly first caught my ear with a single called "No Worries". Nearly a month after he dropped off a a new track which features Ridgio on "Luck No More". This one song you can sit back and enjoy the infectious and trans of the repeat hook that Meeko raps. With Meeko Fly kicking it off, followed by Ridgio, seems to fit perfectly from a calm but aggressive flow to a faster pace flow, but not super fast, with both fitting the beat. Kevin Frytz brings this hard knocking production making for an very enjoyable record.

Lil' Herb - Koolin'
The heavy voice youngin' who been making waves with unofficial release, singles, and freestyle, recently hit the net with "Welcome To Fazoland" mixtape. Holding 16 tracks, one track which was the final single release before the tape dropped was a great song called "Koolin". At first listen, the beat builds quick with an introduction and anticipation of a beat that's about to kick the speaker. With production handled by J Blockmusic, Herbo G provides street narrative prevalent in much of his music. Switching tempos of his flow he ends the song with a line of never forgetting his past, saying, "Told myself if this shit take off and I just might get rich / Can't forget bout that hell hole, I spent my life in it".
