Pick Three: March - 2 Videos & A Single

The end of the month is here and with that come the March Pick Three editorial. Today Chi-City Hip Hop brings you the end of the month segment. This is an opinion segment, where a writer picks three post, from the current month, that stood out to them or that's been added to a playlist and have it on repeat and simple stood out against others. I don't like long lists so we're just picking three, no honorable mentions, its that simple.

In no particular order, each month's post will hold three singles, sometimes all mixtapes, maybe all videos, or two singles and mixtape, etc etc. There were definitely a lot of great releases this month, making choices difficult, but I got my three what's yours.

Check it out and comment below and let me know your three.

Calez - Positive Energy (Video)
Bringing us a already dope song, Calez dropped off the video for "Positive Energy", a simple visual addition, very early in the month. In this video Calez features different moments in which we see him head to spots he's familiar. He flips from a scene where a graffiti artist is bringing, what looks to be, his office to life with some art, to jamming while in the car, providing look into the positive atmosphere around him. The song along is great and the video is alright, simply continuing to put a face to the music. Glad he dropped as this allows for the single from his upcoming project "Ceito" to enter the month of March pick three.

Pavy - Caesar's Birth (Video)
With first mention of the title, "Caesar's Birth", you don't know what to expect. Then the video comes on, "I came, I saw, I conquered, (Veni Vidi Viei - Julius Caesar)", Pavy give us the sense of attitude of the song and video. "Don't this sound like Caesar's Birth" is a repetition of the the chorus that can get stuck in your head for an instant turn up as one will start to sing along. This was a great song, for two reason, you could get caught in the heavy trap beat and just nod your head, or you could listen to what he's saying which represents the hard working artist grinding, but in a luxurious setting. Described as "Nigga Opera" this video and record was very enjoyable, including the dance move Pavy's bringing in the snow.

Martin $ky - Drama
"Dreads hanging over my eyes, screaming fuck you and all of yo lies", Martin $ky dropped of this straight-to-point-in-your-face record. He acquired production from Germany's Gee Futuristic and Ionics, who's beat pick seem to match exactly what $ky needed. The kick of the bass from this beat keeps the energy high, while Martin demonstrates through his lyrics the he's "still shining on them nigga" bypassing all shade. My speakers will not last for another month this.

  2. A lot of artists are misrepresented legally, if at all. If you or anyone you know needs an attorney that specializes in representing up and coming artists, pass our name on to them.
