This Week In Chi-City Hip Hop News [4/12-4/18]

We put the spotlight back on what's happening in the last seven days with our almost weekly news segment. Read it all below.

--Common plans the next AAHH! Fest after a successful festival in 2014. He's also been raising money through the Common Group Foundation, working on films and creating new music for what could be a new album.

--Fat Tiger Workshop is saying goodbye to the 'Tiger Den", which was their current location on 2131 N Rockwell.

--Kanye West was featured on the cover of TIME Magazine for the "100 Most Influential People".
"Kanye West would be the first person to tell you he belongs on this list. The dude doesn’t believe in false modesty, and he shouldn’t. Kanye’s belief in himself and his incredible tenacity—he performed his first single with his jaw wired shut—got him to where he is today. And he fought for his place in the cultural pantheon with a purpose. In his debut album, over a decade ago, Kanye issued what amounted to a social critique and a call to arms (with a beat): “We rappers is role models: we rap, we don’t think.” But Kanye does think. Constantly. About everything. And he wants everybody else to do the same: to engage, question, push boundaries. Now that he’s a pop-culture juggernaut, he has the platform to achieve just that. He’s not afraid of being judged or ridiculed in the process. Kanye’s been playing the long game all along, and we’re only just beginning to see why." - TIME
--Spike Lee made headlines this week when it came to light that he was shooting a movie called "Chiraq". Some gave him the benefit of doubt as a film maker who brought us many classic and thought provoking movies. Others including politicians let it be known that their issue lies with the title of the project.

--Upcoming project: Treated Crew & Teklife "Live From Your Momma's House", Lyriq "Deams 4 Sale", Sir Michael Rocks "Populair", D2G "Short Summer Long Winters", BoneLang "Pleasure Palace".
