3 Picks From The Month of August

August is at its end so I decided to continue to the tradition of this site to bring our audience another of our three picks from this month. Chicago as a scene, continues to churn out music that the world should know about. So here is three release or posts that went up on this site from this month. Read about them below.

TLNTD - eXpectations (EP)

Back at with a new project, TLNTD delivers a EP titled "eXpectations". This is the first project we've gotten from him in about two years, but made a return with a strong renewal in focus early this year. We previously heard "At The Crib Wit My OG", full of notable records that largely went under the radar and "Who Made It? after that. A few months into 2016, TLNTD(previously TalentedAsKB) kicked off a series of music drops almost bi-weekly, delivering a updated and polished sound.

Today "eXpectations" hits the net holding five tracks, including single releases "Fall" and "Wish You Well". HeadAche, Epidemic, Toi, JReed, Phil Free, MIDI, Kiyah Mitchell, and Jesus Roman all contribute to the creation of the is project, from production to the artwork.

Across five songs, TLNTD delivers a story from his perspective, with the central theme being the title of the project. The EP's track list seems to be set as relationship going through the motions until its ending with each track being stages, "Comfortable", "Pressure", "Fall", "No Stress, No Drama", and the lastly saying goodbye with "Wish You Well". Each track goes deeper than the title of the songs, and TLNTD gets a lot more melodic than previous projects. Full of softer more smooth sounds combined with hard drums, and good raps, its a recommended listen. Stream below.

Lupe Fiasco - Pick Up The Phone

Lupe Fiasco is happy to be releasing his own music, now that he has to label to interrupt him. Today he drops a single and video titled, "Pick Up The Phone", that delves into the relationship of technology and the pursuit of a crush. In today society people meet and interact through technology and social media, how pursuit can at time be one sided. In this video we a story of one man's frustration and discovery. G.o.D Jewels once again grabs production from Crystal Tokyo for a new song release. A slow moving track that paints a picture of life lived in the fast lane, on "Car Keys".

Alex Wiley ft. Mick Jenkins - Automatic

There's definitely a irresistible bounce to this one, with production handled by Mike Gao. Alex Wiley drops a new single called "Automatic", enlisting Mick Jenkins, where they raps of living in the current time while chasing their dreams. This is expected to be on Wiley's upcoming project "Synthia", which will be dropping soon.

Kembe X - Oxygen (Video)

Breathing a breath of fresh air through great lyric delivery, Kembe X drops new song and video for "Oxygen". X gets production from Bentley Haze, providing the ears with a backdrop that builds as the raps come in. Yellow Nguyen and Christopher Han handle the animation, which is simplicity brought to life through the central figure's movements that coincide with the what Kembe rapping. Tink - Winter's Dairy 4 (Mixtape)

The saga continues. Tink continues her "Winter's Diary" mixtape series with the fourth installment. She's been building her brand and improving her craft working with Timbaland. Where other project focused on more on raps, the "Winter's Diary" release showcase both the ability to rap and sing, at time leaning more toward singing. "Winter's Diary 4" is a 15 track release, featuring Lil Durk, that holds production from Timbaland, DJ Wes, Jahlil Beats, C-Sick, and more. Stream below.

Mick Jenkins ft. BADBADNOTGOOD - Drowning (Video)

Mick Jenkins is gearing up for the release of "The Healing Component", has already announced tour dates, and now we get a new video. Mindful of what's happen in the world now and its beginning in the past, one possible aim of his is to never let the people forget and use his voice toward current issue in our society. This new video sets powerful imagery against strong lyric delivery, for the song "Drowning", that references police murdering citizens and slavery. Watch the video below.

brandUn DeSahy - Gomen Nasai

Last year November we posted the latest project from brandUn DeShay, titled "GoldUn Child". He brought moments of energy, relaxation, with a display good rapping. Equally a producer, DeShay handled much of the musical backdrop of the project. Now he's preparing to release the second installment "GoldUn Child 2", with a continued influence from Japanese culture.

To kick off the campaign toward his new project release, we a get a new single, produced by Bobby Johnson. More on a uptempo vibe, brandUn DeShay drops raps over a pop sound that centers on mistakes made and given apologies for a single titled "Gomen Nasai", which translates to "I am sorry".

Lil Bibby - Big Buckz (Mixtape)

Without warning Bibby drops off a new mixtape, called "Big Buckz". If you've been following his recent releases, then you've heard songs like "John Snow", which turns out to be a single. He deliver eight tracks with the lone feature from Lil Durk. Stream and download below.

Saint Millie ft. Logan Cage - ET Phone Home (Video)

The energy for this one, is definitely on point, so why not make a video for it. The album cut "ET Phone Home" gets a visual addition, directed by APJ Films. Saint Millie and Logan come together for scenes in outer-space and scenes a bit of psychedelic editing. Millie dropped a pretty good project called "Adderall", which is available right not. Calez ft. Alex Wiley Mick Jenkins & Donnie Trumpet - Still Good

Calez's upcoming project "Baby", is shaping up to be one of the more smoother and personal releases in his catalog. He recently took to twitter to announce that he would be aiming for a new release date in September. But fans do get a new single, joined by Alex Wiley, Mick Jenkins, and Donnie Trumpet, called "Still Good".

Lucki - Freewave 2 (Mixtape)

The ever so lyrically potent rapper Mick Jenkins, is back with some new music. He's coming with a warm track that centered on an effort to "Spread Love". With some pretty good production behind him, Rockie Fresh drops off yet another track. He's been getting production from Zale and Gonek for possibly the last few track and continues with this new one, called "Still Watching". Fresh and Casey Veggies are about to hit the stage together, this new release is a prelude to that, catch them at East Room at 10pm. 

Joel Q - Home (Video)

They say home is where the heart is, and the heart longs for it after much time away. Joel Q brings us a new video, teaming up with Dinero Films, for the Faith Evan sampled track. He has his priorities in order when it comes to the matter of love as he demonstrates in this smooth track from his project "Tunnel Vision".

2 New Chief Keef Songs "Run Em Ova" & "Ghetto"

Chief Keef is now 21, age a lot of people will say he's officially a "grown up". With his birthday celebration probably already in action, he's surely somewhere enjoying the day, we get two new songs. Whether these are official releases or not is not even the question any more. Its when are we going to hear more songs or projects that were supposed to drop. But whatever, here are two new releases ""Run Em Over" and "Ghetto", below.

Lil Bibby - Never Go Against The Family

Lil Bibby get production from Southside and Metro Boomin to delivering a philosophy on dealings within his circle with new track "Never Go Against The Family".

G Herbo - The Drop

New G Herbo, dropping a new track called "The Drop", produced by Trap Hustle Beats. We get some lean raps, he pretty much raps about how much he loves it, but takes it pass that with memories of days he ditched school to get money, talks with his friends, and the reason he "po' up". Herb kicks this off with "Since instagram say everybody ballers, shot callers, why the world not a better place", a line reflective of the sometime superficial ways people use social media. He's going to do what he wants, keep grinding, and bring what he's going through to the forefront, but he's not giving up his habit. Listen below.

Bel-Air ft. Mick Jenkins - Drive Slow

Representing for a collective who called themselves NuWorld, new comer Bel-Air delivers a new single titled "Drive Slow". A single with a bounce to it, evidently something you can ride to, Bel-Air kicks the song off first with a verse that sets the scene of the song. Mick Jenkins follows up with a laid back demeanor, with Donato providing some great production. This is definitely reminiscent of Kanye's song of the same name, or at least that song came to mind, but only in the fact you can ride to both. Not much is known of the NuWorld or Bel-Air, but with continued good releases we'll learn more.

Billionaire Black - Heaven or Hell (Video)

Showing two possibilities when it all comes to a close, Billionaire Black drops a video for the song "Heaven or Hell". He reflects on all the the struggles he's been through, the things he's done, and his daughter, delivering something a bit more deeper in context. Watch below.

Xavier & The Thrill ft. Saba - Tears of Legend

Xavier & The Thrill premiers a new track today, titled "Tears of Legend", featuring Saba and produced by Shepard Hues. This one is a triumphant track, centered on giving the listener a view of the struggles that a future legend faces, as he raps "legend don't cry". Getting very personal, he raps of family member's health issues, over production that just seems to fill the song material. 

I.B.C.L.A.S.S.I.C. & Tree - I.B.Tree (EP)

I seen something on social media that pretty much sums up a part of this project. David Drake stated, "I don't agree when people say they only want Tree over Tree beats", a sentiment CCHH shares as well. While Tree has definitely dropped some good songs that he produced himself, the team up with I.B.C.L.A.S.S.I.C show some chemistry between the two and show that he's able to work with other producers.

Its been nearly two years since we heard a project Tree, while I.B. has had a number of tracks dropped that he produced. Leading up to this we heard "Kinfolk", "All Dat", and "On Dem 4s", dropping gritty reality raps, through unique vocal express, a bit of pain in the voice. For this six track release they've enlisted Chris Crack and Jabari Rayord.

Que Billah ft. Kora Green - Survive (Video)

Preparing to release his upcoming album "Escape From Chirap", recently delivered the first single titled "Survive". For the visual he enlist APJ Films and Clark Airlines, for scenes a man jumping through times and meeting/becoming a great leader. The song is uplifting and stating, "Turbulent times call for turbulent rhymes turn up for the revolution". Watch below.

Femdot continues to be on a roll with the raps, and IKON's been delivering production to artist in the city for some time now. These two come together for a new track called, "3ft No Pressure", where Femdot flexes his ability as a emcee, once again. IKON is working toward a new project, "Auragami", and Fem recently released "thr(we)".

Adam Joseph and producer Xander have been working together on music for sometime now. They've built a chemistry through their collaboration for a possible joint project. These two have enough song already out to make up a full project. Their most recent record his is called "Level Up", a super fresh sound with elegantly turbulent production. Not a song with stiff rhythm, this one can definitely get a crowd to move.
